the evans family arrives in argentina

At long last, we were with Nana and Papa.
Eighteen months is a long time to go without your Nana and Papa.
My parents immediately drove us downtown to a pretty square.
Our eyes were glued to the windows taking it all in.
My mom had a picnic lunch ready to go.

And we just sat together.  Enjoying the surroundings.  Eating.
Such a normal activity, but so special to be together doing that normal activity.

And then we went to the mission home.

The boys couldn't change out of their winter gear and into their summer swimwear fast enough!

We had a little bit of Christmas right away because of what we were able to bring my parents from the states.  But, we also had a little bit of Christmas to set up.  We made a little trip to the hardware store down the street in Acassuso and we were ready to hang the stockings!

last day of seminary

Brianna goes to an International School and the timing is based on an American style school system. However, for the local kids here in Argentina, they are just finishing up their school year and anxiously waiting summer vacation that is just around the corner. Here is the group that she has been doing early morning seminary with the past year.

Her teacher is the one in the grey shirt and the teacher’s daughter, Fele, is just to the left of Brianna in the photo. To the left of Fele are three girls who joined the church together this past year and faithfully attend every day. To the right of Brianna is her best friend, Maile. They are having spirit week and at school, so she is dressed up for that. Taelor is next, between Maile and the teacher. Her dad works for the FBI and they just moved here in August. I’ll have to have Brianna help me out with the other 4 kids later.

This was my favorite of the photos that Maile and Brianna took today with Maile’s dad’s camera.

santa susana

One of the things that Cherylyn requested to do while they were visiting, was take a trip to Campo.  We decided to spend the day and at the ranch, Santa Susana. There were horse rides and wagon rides and lots of food and a variety showcase of Argentine traditions.

santa susanna

Cherylyn has told us almost ever since we moved to Argentina that she wanted to go and visit campo. We learned of an estancia not too far from where we live. It was a beautiful ranch of 3000 acres, but it also caters to tourists. We had horse rides and cart rides, a variety show with various traditional agentine dances and music, a gaucho competition on horseback and food, Food, FOOD!IMG_7482IMG_7461IMG_7480DSC00983IMG_7469IMG_7491IMG_7507IMG_7526DSC01031DSC01021DSC01025IMG_7443

DSC07711

We asked the office secretaries if they wanted to spend their P-day with us and Chezzie’s family at the zoo. They did. I think Temaiken is a gorgeous zoo and we had a beautiful day for it, as well.

It was the craziest thing ever when this bird hopped up on Presidente’s shoulder and decided  that it want the button on his hat..and it got it!DSC07685DSC00912

This bird on the right is called a secretario. Notice the orange glasses and the straw in its mouth held like a pencil.
