camping complaint

It's not the Friday night and Saturday that my husband spends in the woods. It is the responsibility that then falls to me to make sure that I have found all these not so cute little guys that have decided to use him as a host and then dislodge them with my tweezers lest he get Lyme disease or one of the other equally horrific sounding diseases that TICKS carry. Ughhnhhhh!

jasmine season

I think it is strange when people say that we don't have seasons in Florida. We just don't have traditional seasons. Right now it is jasmine season. It comes right after orange blossom season. It is one of my favorites since the archway looks especially beautiful covered in the confederate flowers. But it is also a favorite because Carter and Jonah were blessed in jasmine season. Tricia loved the jasmine that ran along the parkway near her home in Tampa. When she came to visit during spring break, it was just a little early to catch the jasmine.
So here it is.

my hummer

Guess what I saw in my garden this morning!

Hummingbirds live only in the Americas. Of the 338 species known, 16 are found in the United States and 3 occur in Florida. The ruby-throated hummingbird is by far the most common hummer in the state. This feathered jewel is about 3 inches (7.5 centimeters) long and weighs as little as a penny (¼ ounce). Its name describes the most brilliant part of the mature male's plumage. The throat feathers contain air bubbles that give off an iridescent red tone in full light. Both sexes, young and mature birds, have metallic green backs and white-tipped tail feathers.

I am going to have to get a feeder and see if I can get a real picture...my hummer is spectacular!

friday night friends

It's great to have friends that you can call on the spur of the moment and say something like...we are going out to dinner tonight and we're wondering if you want to come. These are our friends Mike and Cindy. We enjoy good conversation and a great time whenever we spend time with them. All of our lives are busy and it always seems like a treat when we catch an evening together. Last night it was dinner at Pices Rising overlooking Lake Dora and then we watched The Illusionist at their house.

my good deal

I love getting a new dress. Actually, I love getting a new anything, but a dress is particularly a good new something to get. I also love a good deal. If you get a good deal on a new dress, well...that's really something to blog about. So here it is:

My new dress was $27.80. But...it was marked down to $11.99. When I took it to the register, it came up as $7.99. I can't wait to wear it to school on Monday!

brown-eyed girls

My mother has brown eyes.
I have brown eyes.
Tricia has brown eyes.
And Bella has brown eyes.

If you think this last picture is not Bella...all I can say is that it IS an adorable picture and Bella looks an awfully lot like her Nanamoo.

john and his family come to florida

Who would have guessed that someday BOTH John and I would end up living in Florida?
I learned this week that Mercedes loves vintage clothes just like I do. We shopped in downtown Mt. Dora and she got an adorable black beaded sweater...I wish I had seen it first!

Gideon could not fit his Cinderella foot into the waterski...try as he might... so he took B for some crazy rides on the jet skis and had a blast on the tube that John bought. Everyone complained of sore arms from hanging on!

Maverick is going to be the guy hanging out on the dock with Carter. He was looking good, but not that interested in any of the water fun.

Zack threw himself wholeheartedly into everything. He had lots of questions about Florida, and is looking forward to moving here. His mom's parents will come first in May and he will follow in August with the Chytraus clan.

After watching the house grow up on paper the past couple of years it was very cool to see it taking shape.

Doug and I haven't lived near any of our siblings apart from a short nine months for over 17 years! We are looking forward to August!
