Every pilot has a license and this license was especially interesting because it has a picture of Wilbur and Orville Wright on it.
We learned all about the various parts of the plane including the elevators, propeller, vertical stabilizers and horizontal stabilizers, sail and a bunch of French names that we can’t remember.
Then it was time to fly. The first group was the daredevils, Truman, Elliot and Jonah. They did exciting things like fly the airplane themselves, sharp turns, stalling the plane and low passes. The next group was Papa and Carter and Izzy. They took a tour of the local area. The last group was Courtney, Clark and myself. I felt just like Clark looks. However, we conquered our fears and enjoyed sharing our adventures with one another. We all got to fly over the Birdhouse and view the lake from up there. It was pretty great!
Then we had some time enjoying the comforts of an executive airplane. The kids decided they should start saving now for one of these modes of travel!
Our last stop was the control tower. We took the elevator up to the top and enjoyed chatting with the guys who we listened to during our flight. The kids liked the red light/green light, which is actually a backup and helps the planes know when it is safe to land, but as you can imagine, the kids quickly came up with their own game.
We spent 3 1/2 hours at the Leesburg International Airport this morning. It was an amazing way to start off our grandkid camp, and we are very grateful to all of the people who generously shared their time and talents and expertise with us.
