I have a quilt that we use to snuggle up in when it is cold. So, of course, in my cleaning frenzy, it had to come clean with everything else in my path. I called Jaime, our dry cleaner first. He wanted $20 and some change, I don't remember the exact amount for the job. The man overseeing the laundry last night said I could drop it off there, and they would do it for $17. He was surprised when I told him that his neighbor, two doors down, would do it for $20. After little math calculation we figured that I could do it myself for about $6.75.
This afternoon, I headed over to the place with soap and Zout in hand. The washing machine was at least double the size of the one I own at home. Which lead me to the nearly fatal conclusion that I should use twice as much soap. There was sooooo much soap in my machine that people in the laundromat (and there were plenty there today) were whispering and pointing at my machine.
I was trying to pretend that that machine didn't belong to me. I must have been doing a good job, because apparently, I wasn't the only newbie at the laundromat today. People kept asking me for advice...which I was obviously ill equipped to give. However, I do think that one particular patron asked me for advice with the specific intent of finding out exactly what I did, so that she would know what not to do.
I really did not want to run a second load without soap because that made me think that I should have just let Jaime do it in the first place. But then, of course, the only other option was to take home a stiff quilt.
I visited the overseer, who was a lady today, and got another $4.75 in quarters, ran the cycle again and comforted myself with the thought that it probably needed a double wash after all.
At the very least, I have an extremely clean blankie to snuggle up in while we cope with freezing temperatures again this week...26 predicted for tomorrow night.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Now that is a funny story. Especially the part about pretending that it is not yours. I can just visualize it. Sorry you lost out on change but you still came out ahead.
Very cute post Debbie! I can see you there with all that soap!
You look so comfy wrapped up in that thing. Maybe I should come and join you. :)
That is too funny. But I know you were really just thinking of a way to stimulate the economy. Extra clean is extra nice.
I was picturing you and the expression that must have been on your face. I remember those days in the laundromat when I would do something silly and wait til no one was watching and then unload all my stuff.
That quilt looks so comfy!
