tongan birthday party

The event was to celebrate Ana's 16th birthday.

There was quite a lot of drama in the room before she even arrived. Forty circular dinner tables and a banquet table sat in readiness for the guests. Ultimately, there was not enough room even at that, and many stood alone the sidelines to watch the festivities. There was a cake tree with twenty cakes just right of center. The center seat at the head table was bedecked with fabrics--gold and turquoise, clearly signaling the seat of honor. An enormous amount of food including  green salad, pasta salad, rice, three kinds of potatoes, chicken, salmon, several beef and, of course, pork was laid.

Her entrance was dramatic as she was carried aloft in a chair by her two uncles.

To Ana's left sat six of her friends. To Ana's right sat her Aunt and four church leaders, among them was Doug. Her relatives entertained us with music and dance throughout the whole of the evening. However, at one particular point in the evening, gifts were given to those on her right. They each received several blankets/quilts and a cake. GetAttachment.aspx

Ana was beautiful and gracious. It was interesting and entertaining to join with her family celebrating her life with their unique traditions.doug tongan
